A Tauranga doctor is facing three charges of professional misconduct related to forging prescriptions to fuel a personal drug addiction and prescribing pseudoephedrine to a patient without the appropriate consultation.
The doctor, who has interim name suppression, is appearing before the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal in Auckland today.
The charges have been brought by the Medical Council Professional Conduct Committee after the doctor was convicted of five offences under the Crimes Act 1961 in June 2014.
The charges were for dishonestly using a document and related to the doctor forging prescriptions.
The doctor doesn't contest the facts the PCC has put before the Tribunal, but contested whether the charges amount to professional misconduct.
