Taupo police are seeking witnesses to a vicious robbery on Sunday morning which left a man unconscious and with a broken rib.
The 37-year-old local man was walking along Brice Street about 4am when he was knocked to the ground, police said.
He was left unconscious and with bruising and swelling to his face and eyes, a broken rib and grazes on his hands.
His black sleeveless fleece vest was stolen in the attack.
The man recalled seeing a person in the distance ahead of him before the attack, Detective Sergeant Tony Manunui said.
It was believed more than one person was involved in the robbery.
Police appealed for anyone in the area at the time of the attack to contact them.
