KEY POINTS:
Police hope a distinctive thigh tattoo will identify a man who allegedly abducted a woman sleeping in her vehicle and raped her.
The 28-year woman felt unwell at a party in Woodglen Rd, Glen Eden, on Saturday night and decided to sleep in the station wagon, police said.
She was later woken by a man tapping on the window about 3am.
"She was half asleep and thought it was somebody from the party so she unlocked the door," Detective Sergeant Megan Golie said.
The man got in the car and threatened the woman with a brown-handled kitchen knife.
He drove her to a nearby rugby club where he raped her in the vehicle.
The man is described as having a large, eye-shaped tattoo with a tribal pattern on the outside of his left thigh.
"Somebody will know who he is from that tattoo," Ms Golie said. "It's quite distinctive, and somebody might recognise it."
The man is described as a clean-shaven Polynesian with a strong accent, aged under 25, about 170cm tall, of average build and with close-cut hair.
