The winning margin could - indeed should - have been greater but Eketahuna women's rugby coach Syd Tatana was still satisfied with his side's 31-12 victory over Stokes Valley last weekend.
In what was Eketahuna's opening match of their 2011 Wellington premier division campaign they took most of the first half to settle into a rhythm before clearly outplaying a gutsy Stokes Valley in the second 40 minutes.
"We probably should have scored another 15 points or so, some of the finishing and option taking wasn't as clinical as it could have been," Tatana said. "But then again you expect that sort of thing first time up. Overall it wasn't too bad."
Black Fern Rebecca Mahoney was a dominant figure at first-five for Eketahuna. Encouraged by Tatana to be adventurous in her approach she made several clean breaks and also showed good judgement with her tactical kicking when the occasion demanded it.
Centre Shakira Baker was another Eketahuna back to shine with her hard, purposeful running while halfback Laura Gavin not only impressed with the speed of her passing but with her willingness to mix it with the forwards.
The accuracy of their set piece play highlighted a solid effort from the Eketahuna pack with openside flanker Koko Namana making a huge impact both on attack and defence. A couple of newcomers in Amy Carroll and Angel Edwards looked promising prospects when they came off the bench.
Tatana happy with win
