Eastern Bay of Plenty police say they have used a Taser for the first time, subduing a man in a domestic incident overnight.
The man was being aggressive, damaging property and refused all requests to stop his violent behaviour, said Eastern Bay of Plenty area commander Inspector Sandra Venables.
He was successfully subdued with the Taser.
"This is the first incident in the Eastern Bay of Plenty Police area where a Taser has been discharged. The safe resolution of a highly volatile incident reinforces the results that have already been seen in the earlier trials of Taser in New Zealand," Ms Venables said.
A 45-year-old man will appear in Whakatane District court charged with disorderly offences.
