A 33-year-old Taranaki man was struck and killed by a truck as he walked to work early this morning.
The Midhurst local was walking down State Highway 3 between Midhurst and Stratford when he was hit about 4.30am, Sergeant Geoff Winter of Stratford police said.
The man was believed to have been walking on the road, within a road lane, as he headed to work at a local business.
Police had spoken to the truck driver, who was "pretty upset and shocked", Mr Winter said.
The man's immediate family had been informed, but police were yet to release a name.
