Taranaki hotel locked safe a mystery

The mystery of Stony River Hotel's uncrackable safe continues.

Wellington locksmith John Levestam has tried to open the safe, found by builders renovating the 120-year-old Taranaki hotel.

But owner Sarah MacGregor said Mr Levestam had been called away and plans for the unlocking were on hold until next month.

And if the opening reveals the safe is empty?

"We don't really mind because it's all part of the hotel."
