Tao Wang, 29, of China, was studying English at the King's Education language school in the CTV building when the earthquake struck.
She had previously been a nurse at Beijing United Family Hospital in China.
Tao had planned to take up nursing in New Zealand, but first needed to fulfil the English language requirements.
