KEY POINTS:
A milk tanker and trailer has crashed through a motorway barrier, rolled down the bank and landed near cars on the Northern motorway, heading to Auckland.
High strength tow trucks were at the site, near the Esmonde Road on-ramp - in the hope of clearing the milk truck before rush hour begins.
Police said no lanes were closed but some may have to be while the trailer is removed from the motorway's edge.
They are urging drivers to take special care around the scene.
The driver of the truck has been taken to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be serious.
