KEY POINTS:
A ferry was stranded yesterday when a mooring line became stuck around a prop on a Waiheke Island wharf.
The Fullers' Starflyte left downtown Auckland at 11am and when it arrived at Matiatia Wharf, the rope on the right side of the vessel wrapped around a pile.
Some divers from a local island business were called in to disentangle the line.
The 195 passengers on board were able to leave the ferry but it had to be moved further around the wharf while it was being untangled to make room for the next ferry. Passengers set to go back on Starflyte at noon had to wait for the next ferry at 1pm.
Starflyte was up and running again soon after.
Fullers operations manager Ian Greenslade said he did not know how the rope had become stuck.
"We have to investigate how it occurred before speculating.
"A rope could have fallen off a wharf, it could have been pushed over the side of a boat or it could have been floating in the water.
"Ropes do get caught, it doesn't happen all the time but it is a common occurrence.
