KEY POINTS:
The Government has upped its storage of antiviral medication Tamiflu, but is still short of the amount needed to treat the entire country should a viral pandemic strike.
More than 36 million dollars worth of the drug has just been purchased, which will be stored in five separate secure facilities around the country.
In total, health authorities have over one point two million Tamiflu treatment courses in store - enough to treat 30 per cent of the population.
It is estimated another 350 to 400 thousand doses are in private or corporate hands.
