Maori activist Tame Iti is going easy on the food and gearing up in lycra as he prepares for the 100km Hamilton to Auckland cycle challenge.
The 55-year-old Tuhoe kaumatua, better known for his protests, confesses to being a food addict and says his favourite meal is "fermented puha with a whakamarama [scattering] of mutton bird juice and natural sea salt". Just talking about it made his mouth water.
And as for the lycra cycling shorts, Mr Iti reckons they make him look like a professional.
