A fleet of impressive tall ships will sail into Auckland's Waitemata Harbour today for the city's first ever Tall Ships Festival.
They have just finished the first ever Trans-Tasman Tall Ships race from Sydney to Opua.
The event's project manager, John Lister, said the ships will make a splendid sight as they sail into Auckland at 2pm.
The festival kicks off with a street parade tomorrow morning and there will be a chance for the public to board the ships and check them out on Sunday.
"On Monday the fleet sails out again, sails up, a sight to be seen as they disappear out into the harbour and leaving Auckland," he said.
