Northland is in for a drenching this weekend, as the remnants of Cyclone Evan brush the country.
The system has caused destruction and havoc in Samoa and Fiji.
MetService forecaster Sarah Garlick says the tail end of it will bring rain today, but it should have moved on by tomorrow.
"Northland in particular may receive bursts of very heavy rain as this low passes by, in addition to the risk of the easterly winds reaching severe gale.''
Sarah Garlick expects the weather will be unsettled on Christmas Day, with muggy and wet conditions across much of the country.
