KEY POINTS:
Police have their eyes on taggers they believe may be responsible for a school arson estimated to have caused $1 million in damage.
The fire, which destroyed two classrooms at Kenakena School, Paraparaumu, was deliberately lit on a deck outside one of the classrooms early on Friday morning.
"We've got a long way to go, but we're very much interested in a group of younger people. There are some links to people tagging and spraypainting," Mr Hercock said today.
"Somebody out there does know, somebody is talking about it. We've yet to hear about it, but we will."
There had been a series of suspicious fires recently in the Kapiti region, but Mr Hercock said there was no evidence they were linked to the Kenakena School fire.
The gutted rooms were demolished yesterday, and three relocatable classrooms set up in their place. The school reopened today.
