Ramblers
A variety of tactical skills were adopted when the Ruamahanga Ramblers held an event three-quarters of the way up Admiral's Hill last Saturday.
Those competing over the 6km had to negotiate 700m of steep climbing on three occasions. Marty Sebire went out fast but faded on the last lap, Michael Rowe-Penny started slowly and finished strongly only to discover he had left his run too late to catch the front-runners, while Michael Duthie timed everything pretty much to perfection, and clocked second-fastest time behind Derek Cox.
Also having good reason to be pleased with her efforts was Teresa Reynolds, who placed higher than usual.
Of the walkers, Lynne Birkett originally decided to do just the one lap but found the view so enticing that after a brief rest she completed a second lap as well.
