KEY POINTS:
A Wellington TAB teller was too shocked to hand over any money after a would-be robber demanded cash and said he had a gun in his pocket, police say.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Williams said the incident happened about 1.30pm when a man allegedly entered the Courtenay Place TAB and demanded money.
"The shocked teller did not respond and the offender left the branch without obtaining any money," Mr Williams said.
Police found a 37-year-old man nearby and charged him with demanding with menaces. He was remanded without plea when he appeared in Wellington District Court this morning.
Police wanted to hear from anyone who saw the incident or the alleged offender leaving the scene.
They also wanted to hear from anyone who may have found a dark green or black beanie-style cap, grey zip-up hoodie or thick brown/beige gloves.
