KEY POINTS:
Crazy Swiss firm Acabion is making huge claims about its wild-looking GTBO - like that it will be limited to 550km/h for road use.
But theoretically, the low-drag, lightweight machine will be capable of much higher speeds than that - but tyres haven't yet been invented that can cope with those unbelievable speeds.
So far, the 360kg, 520kW beast has only reached a sedate 360km/h in tests although it does rocket to 300kph in around five seconds.
A limited run of 26 Acabion GTBOs will be produced between now and 2011 - at a cost of over $2.5 million dollars each.
It powered by a highly modified four-cylinder turbocharged Suzuki motorbike engine with dual intercoolers. Using drag racing technology, the ECU controls accelleration, progressively delivering more power with each up-shift through the sequential six-speed gearbox.
The GTBO also boasts a pair of two-kilowatt electric motors for low-speed manoeuvrability. With a super-slippery drag coefficient of just 0.125, Acabion's boffins claim the machine will return a super-efficient 2.5l/100km.
