An Auckland swimming pool has reopened after it was evacuated this morning for two-and-a-half hours following a suspected chlorine leak.
The Glen Innes Aquatic and Fitness Centre in Point England was evacuated at 7.30am, while the main shut-off valve was shut down, said the Fire Service's Auckland communications centre shift manager, Jaron Phillips.
Firefighters were called to the building to check the ventilation system and the gas levels in the pump room.
They then handed over to a plant engineer to check the chlorine levels.
Mike Mclean, manager of the fitness centre, said staff took a cautious approach.
"They could smell chlorine, so decided to evacuate. We have chlorine gas alarms on site.
"The fire department tested for levels of chlorine and the health department found levels of chlorine were undetectable so people were allowed back in around 10am," he said.
