Swimmer drowns

A 52-year-old man has drowned in a swimming hole in the Coromandel.

Police were called to the Waiau Falls, about 12km southeast of Coromandel town, about 1pm on Wednesday.

A St John ambulance and the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter were also called but the man was dead before they arrived.
