A Featherston senior men's team made a huge impact at the Carterton Swimming Club's highly successful inaugural relay meet over the weekend.
Spearheaded by former Olympian Jon Winters (41yrs) and also including James Barclay (22), Matt Thomas (25) and AJ Waters (35yrs), they set records in two events; the 50m freestyle with a time of 47.82sec and the 50m individual medley with a time of 53.13sec. The old records were 49.29sec and 56.45secs respectively and were held by Masterton teams.
The Featherston combination were surprised at their efforts as they entered the Carterton meet as a dress rehearsal for the 2013 Swim Wairarapa championship relay events. For Barclay, it was the first time he had been in a record-breaking team.
