Swimming
Swim Wairarapa and Swim Wellington have formed an alliance which will see them become one region.
The decision was taken at a special general meeting in Masterton on Sunday and apparently came after two clubs, Greytown and Masterton, forwarded a memorandum in which they said they did not wish to "compromise the potential and future of their swimmers" by Swim Wairarapa remaining as a separate entity.
It is also believed those two same clubs also warned that, if the meeting did not adopt the memorandum of understanding between Swim Wairarapa and Swim Wellington, they would join Swim Wellington regardless.
A recommendation was that a president's committee comprising six people (the five club presidents or their nominees, together with a co-opted chair) be appointed to manage the interests of the five Wairarapa clubs as an interim measure.
