KEY POINTS:
Fire safety officers are today investigating whether a fire in an Auckland suburb this morning was deliberately lit.
Firefighters were called at 3.15am to the blaze at a single level house in Nikau Road, Otahuhu.
Fire Service northern communications centre shift manager Steve Smith said the fire was under control by dawn.
"At this stage it appears to be a suspicious fire. So far we have been unable to locate the home owner."
Mr Smith said fire safety officers were still at the scene trying to determine what caused the blaze.
