A Christian early childhood centre in Christchurch escaped damage after a suspicious fire on the property last night.
The fire service was called to the Cornerstone Early Learning Centre on Windermere Rd in Papanui, just before 9pm, southern fire shift manager Lyn Crosson said.
A wool sack filled with grass clippings was alight on the premises.
The small fire was quickly extinguished, Ms Crosson said.
"They put it through to police because it seemed strange - especially at that time of night.
