A man died in a seaside car park in Otahuhu under suspicious circumstances in the early hours of this morning.
Senior Sergeant Kai Shao says a young male in his early 20s collapsed on the sidewalk after a verbal altercation and pushing and shoving amongst a group of people.
He said the group had been drinking in a local bar or night club, before moving to the car park. Senior Sergeant Shao says all involved were under the influence.
A prayer group was in the area at around 5.30am. They have told police they heard arguing, and then members of the group came towards them asking for help.
CPR was carried out on the man, and two ambulances called to the scene.
Senior Sergeant Shao says the man died on the scene.
