Small power companies outperform bigger players when it comes to customer service, according to a Consumer NZ survey.
In a survey of 8480 people asked to rate the overall performance of their power companies small suppliers came out on top.
Powershop took first place for the second year in a row with 92 per cent satisfaction, while Energy Direct and Energy Online were tied with 83 per cent.
Powershop chief executive Ari Sargent said the survey was a vote of confidence for his company, which started operating in 2009, and now had 20,000 customers.
"As a small player we set out to do things differently, against the conventional wisdom of the larger power companies. The Consumer survey shows our customers think we're delivering," he said.
