Two surfers have been rescued after getting into trouble off Smaills Beach in Dunedin this morning.
A police spokeswoman confirmed the pair, who were on a rock near Maori Point, were rescued by helicopter just after noon.
A St John spokesman said an Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust chopper was called to the rock, which was believed to be Bird Island.
