Four years ago what could be Australasia's largest surfing museum was little more than a vision and one surfboard.
Today the Mount Surf Museum has opened to the public - with 700 surfboards, 2000 photos and countless T-shirts and memorabilia.
The museum is the brainchild of avid surfers and Tauranga businessmen Dusty Waddell and Redge Spiers.
Mr Waddell said it was exciting to think the museum had aroused so much interest.
Among the 1200sq m collection are boards from surfers such as Mickey Dora, who won the 1967 Duke Kahanamoku Big Wave Invitation trophy.
