Name suppression for a man accused of murdering Christchurch toddler Ihaka Stokes has been extended, for a second time, until the end of the month.
A 22-year-old man appeared at Christchurch District Court last Thursday charged with assaulting and killing 15-month-old boy Ihaka Paora Braxton Stokes on July 3.
Judge David Saunders granted name suppression so the man - who police say was known to Ihaka, who suffered multiple blunt force injuries including broken bones in the alleged assault at a house in Truman Rd, Bryndwr - can tell his parents of his predicament.
But the suppression order was later extended until 10am today unless defence counsel Phil Shamy applied for any further extensions.
High Court staff in Christchurch today confirmed that interim name suppression has indeed been extended until July 31 at 9am, when the man will make his second appearance, this time at the High Court.
