Prominent methamphetamine campaigner Mike Sabin will be at next Saturday's charity dinner to talk about the dangers of P.
But the former detective's thoughts will also be with his 18-year-old son Darryl, who is lying in a coma in Auckland City Hospital after a rugby accident on Anzac Day.
Darryl suffered a serious head injury that doctors initially believed would kill him. Before the accident, he had had several head injuries, prompting his father to appeal to rugby authorities and consider legal action to stop him from playing again.
Mr Sabin said there was still no indication whether Darryl would wake up from his coma or, if he did, how much rehabilitation he would need.
He has a website with daily updates on his son's condition and he and his family have been touched by the warmth of people's responses. "It blows you away," he said. "It's very humbling."
