Mrs Oliver said she and her husband had phoned creditors to reassure them they would get their money back.
"We told them we were selling the house and they were all prepared to wait.
"Lots of people have called in since the paper came out, to give us support, hugs and even flowers," she said.
As well Mr Oliver said a Featherston woman had phoned to tell them she knew exactly how they felt, as many years ago she had also fallen victim to an overseas scam.
Mr Oliver said the couple's next move was to meet their solicitor about the house sale.
