GreyPower is disappointed but not surprised that errors by Statistics New Zealand and Treasury saw the number of superannuitants living in poverty underestimated.
The original number released claimed 28 per cent off all pensioners who don't own a home were below the poverty line, when the actual number is closer to 50 per cent.
That means more elderly people are living in poverty.
GreyPower president Roy Reid says many superannuitants cannot afford the basic necessities of life.
He is calling for the Government to lead society in caring for New Zealand's most venerable people.
