Champion Carterton pig breeders Allan Hoskin and Rebecca Andrews have again this year captured a supreme champion ribbon with their sow Te Ngutu Queenie.
Mr Hoskin, who shifted to Clareville with his partner about a decade ago, said the couple had been breeding and showing pigs out of their Te Ngutu stud in Nursery Rd since about 2006 and last weekend took three ribbons at the Taranaki Pig Breeders Association show in Stratford, including champion sow, champion of all breeds and supreme champion.
"We started the Te Ngutu line of saddlebacks from scratch, same as the large blacks. We won a supreme champion in 2011 with a saddleback sow and Te Ngutu Queenie also won the supreme champion ribbon in Levin earlier this year."
The Queenie had impressed veteran pig show judge Bruce Miller, of Christchurch, at the Stratford show.
"He said he'd been judging for 45 years and she was one of the best pigs he'd seen for a while."
