It's no dog's life for the biosecurity team at the Ministry for Primary Industries.
A new four-legged investigator has been added to the team, marking the first time a harrier hound has been trained for snooping through suspicious baggage.
Gifted to MPI by the New Zealand Hunts' Association, the two-year-old harrier is described as a "super-sized beagle".
Taller than an average beagle, they're described as being good at sniffing out food and plants, with their extra height helping them get a whiff of backpacks and tall baggage carriers.
"Lou Lou" and her handler will join the Auckland Airport dog squad in December, as one of 24 biosecurity teams about to start their patrols.
