The race to be the first mayor of the Auckland Super City is heating up - and it's also tweeting up.
We asked mayoral candidates if they would condense their campaign promises and visions into a single message that could be easily shared around on Twitter, the social media site famous for its 140-character limit.
In the interest of fairness, the 10 candidates who chose to participate were asked to submit their tweets to nzherald.co.nz, where they will be tweeted at @nzherald and @nzhdebate. This is because not all candidates involved in the mayoral race are active on Twitter and of those who are, the usernames are not of a uniform length.
Therefore each candidate has been given up to 125 characters in which to create their message, leaving a minimum of 15 characters in which to fit the candidates' names.
We invite Twitter users to take part by tweeting the messages below and starting their own debates about the future of New Zealand's largest city.
