Sunstrike is thought to be a factor in a two-car collision on a busy stretch of Northland highway yesterday.
Strategic Traffic Unit Constable Richard Soper said a woman was taken to Whangarei Hospital with severe cuts to her head after the crash on State Highway 14, just past the intersection with Kara Rd about 7.40am.
It appeared a motorist had pulled out of a driveway and was headed towards Whangarei when they slowed for sunstrike. A following car also blinded by the sun slowed but collided with the rear of the other vehicle.
Mr Soper said the second vehicle may have spun on its bonnet before landing upright.
