Castlepoint Store owner Devon Oakley said it was hot and a great day for surfers.
"It's a real pleasant day out here," he said.
The good weather was set to continue with the remainder of the holiday weekend to be sunny and reach highs of up to 26C.
MetService forecaster John Law said this week has seen a large anticyclone move on to the country which brought dry, settled weather.
"Temperatures are expected to remain warm over Easter, with daytime highs in eastern places, and over the north of the North Island, reaching the mid-20s," he said. "Remember to be sun-smart and water-safe."
Life guards would be patrolling Riversdale Beach over the long weekend.
