A brisk easterly wind and showers turning to rain are expected in most areas of the upper North Island for the Auckland Anniversary Weekend.
Today and tomorrow will be the best days for Auckland and areas south of the Hibiscus Coast as a subtropical low approaches from the northeast of the country, delivering moist winds.
On Monday, Northland and Coromandel can expect showers turning to rain, with easterlies picking up strength, MetService senior forecaster Andy Downes said yesterday.
Rain and choppy waters are likely for the New Zealand Herald Anniversary Day Regatta, he said, though the west coast surf beaches will be sheltered.
