KEY POINTS:
The severe weather has passed, and summer is far from over. New Zealanders can expect warm, settled conditions heading in to Auckland's anniversary weekend.
MetService weather ambassador Bob McDavitt said temperatures would slowly rise until the weekend.
Weatherwatch head analyst Philip Duncan said a large high would reach the North Island and upper South Island this week, which would end the cooler weather.
"Thursday, Friday and Saturday are all looking very good," he said.
Aucklanders could expect cloudy but warm weather for Anniversary Day, with a very small chance of an isolated shower.
Mr Duncan also said farmers in dry areas, especially Northern Canterbury and Hawkes Bay, would not get the consistent rain they needed any time soon.
However, he said it was unlikely to become as dry as last year, when drought severely affected the dairy sector.
