Auckland basked in sunshine and warm temperatures yesterday as summer appears to be in no hurry to give way to autumn.
Auckland reached 25C while Alexandra and Kaitaia reached 27C and Wellington 22C.
Down south, things were a little chillier with Christchurch on 19C and Dunedin reaching 18C, but Ashburton got to 23C.
While the weather is set to take a turn for the worse over the next few days, the outlook for the weekend is better.
"There's a pretty good run of Indian summer weather at the moment so there's every reason to get out and about," said Metservice forecaster Mads Naeraa. "But with the end of daylight saving on Sunday, it's going to feel a bit more like autumn is upon us."
A low pressure system east of the North Island would move slowly west over the next few days bringing rain or drizzle and lower temperatures, Mr Naeraa said.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay got rain yesterday but by today other centres including Auckland would get some rain. By Friday, rain would persist in the east of the North Island but it would be fine everywhere else and the outlook for the weekend was for fine weather apart from eastern coastal areas.
Summer keeps on shining
