The final round of the Men's and Women's Summer Cup competitions was completed last Saturday, January 28, in scorching summer heat.
Before the start of last Saturday's play Robert Bentley had what looked to be an unassailable lead and, indeed, Bob did finish at the head of the field.
What was unexpected was that Brayden Maizey, one of the youngest of the club's members, came in with a 45 point total for the day propelling him up the ladder to join Bob at the top.
So, once again, a trophy will be shared with R O Bentley and B Maizey the names to engraved on the Men's Summer Cup for 2006. Incidentally, both Bob and Brayden totalled 125 points in their best three rounds.
The Women's Summer Cup was won by Anne Brewer with a total of 121 points over three rounds.
The daily competition for last Saturday was, of course, stableford and the men's scoring matched the heat of the day.
Brian Field won the lower handicap group for men with his 45 point score with both Adam Brunton and Tom Bingham on 41 points in second and third places respectively.
Both George Rink and Nigel Bain scored 39 points for fourth and fifth places.
Brayden Maizey, of course, won the higher handicap group for men with Robert Bentley in second place on 41.
Larry Gray was third, with 38, Eric Behringer fourth, with 36 and Max Baylis fifth, with 33.

COMING EVENTS:
The season proper for 2006 will swing into gear this Saturday with the opening day competition being the annual Canadian Mixed Foursomes stableford event for the W J Feast Memorial Cup.
On Waitangi Day one of the popular Carterton mini-tournaments will take place. A $12 entry fee will apply for this tournament which will include the two's competition. For visitors to the club this must represent the best possible value for golfing money as the $12 also includes green fees.
There will be a card draw for this event ? cards to the starters by 12 noon.
FOOTNOTE:
The first hole at Carterton can be a little intimidating for men players on occasion.
Although the water in front of the tee is not really very extensive it sometimes seems so.
On of the players in the veterans unofficial haggle on Tuesday, January 31, solved the problem in an unusual way.
This player normally hits a very long ball so the water does not really cause him much angst. But on Tuesday the player's drive off the first tee screamed low on takeoff, caught the lip of the concrete in front of the tee, climbed to near the stratosphere, and, on returning to earth, cleared the pond by about 2 meters. See, no trouble at all!
