Receivers for Five Star Consumer Finance are suing the company for nearly $60 million.
Richard Agnew and Anthony Boswell, of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, have started civil proceedings in the High Court in Auckland.
The company collapsed last year, owing 2300 investors nearly $55m. Repayments to date have been 22.5 cents in the dollar.
The Herald on Sunday understands a statement of claim of $58m has been lodged against Five Star Consumer Finance and that Agnew and Boswell have hired a Queen's Counsel to litigate.
Agnew declined to confirm the amount.
More than 140 criminal charges have been laid against the bosses of the Five Star Finance group.
Directors Marcus MacDonald, Anthony Bowden, Nicholas Kirk and executive Neill Williams - regarded as a de facto director by the Companies Office - have been charged for alleged breaches of the Securities Act.
If convicted, the directors and Williams face maximum fines of $300,000.
