KEY POINTS:
MPs Sue Bradford are Metiria Turei are both putting up their hands to be the next female co-leader of the Green Party.
Jeanette Fitzsimons is to step down from the role in June.
Ms Bradford believes her nine years in Parliament and 16 years working in the community sector uniquely qualify her for what lies ahead.
"I think that I've got that experience and background, willing and able to take the Green Party into the future. I'd like us to be part of a Government very soon."
Ms Turei says the party did a good job of managing the male co-leader position after the death of Rod Donald. She believes while the competition for the female role will be interesting, it will not be divisive.
"At heart this is the party's decision about the kind of leadership that they want...and I certainly have absolute faith that they'll make the right decision for them at this time. I'll support their decision regardless of what it is."
Green Party members will decide on the leader at their annual conference in June. It is possible a candidate outside Parliament will also seek the role. MPs Sue Kedgley and Catherine Delahunty have ruled themselves out.
