The success of their mixed 150m freestyle relay team was a feature for the Masterton Masters Swimming Club when they held a carnival in the new pool at the Genesis Recreation Centre in Masterton.
A shield was at stake in the event and Masterton were expected to meet strong opposition from Harbour Capital.
And so it was with Masterton clocking 1min 28.32secs and Harbour Capital 1min 29.27secs,
The successful Masterton team comprised of Paul Lovell, Jo Matthews, Kirsten Cameron, Richard Parkes, Derek Smith and Ngaire Clarke.
It was Matthews who provided the individual highlights for the Masterton club. She beat the national record for her age group by 8secs in the 200m butterfly with a time of 3min 4.09secs and her time of 1min 22.13secs for the 100m butterfly was also inside the national record.
Kirsten Cameron produced one of her best times in the 200m freestyle when she clocked 2min 12.27secs.
Enjoying their first meet for the Masterton club were Carol Simons, Penny Duncan, Jamima Blatchford, Debra Brooking and Jeff Ryan.
