Subdivision has some real history

Greytown's latest subdivision development has fond memories for a daughter who learned to drive on its paddocks.

Mawson Estate, a 25-lot subdivision off Humphries St, was launched on Saturday by Harcourts and Jennian Homes.

It is on land previously owned by Bev and Kevin Prendiville, who are noted in 'Prendiville Lane' within the subdivision.

The Prendivilles, although not early settlers, were prominent members of the Greytown community for 46 years.

The other street, Garrity Lane, is named for a former mayor of Greytown, John Garrity, who died in January.

The Garrity family owned the land, before selling it on to the Prendiville family.

Mawson Estate is in recognition of early Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.

Sue Robinson, born Prendiville, now lives in Napier but came to the launch on Saturday.

Kevin and Bev, her parents, died last year.

"This is my childhood - I learnt to drive in these paddocks," she said.
