A photographer has captured a stunning panorama image of the Milky Way on a clear, starry night.
Amit Kamble, who is also a member of the Auckland Astronomical Society, said the picture was taken from the historic Maori settlement Opotaka, near the shores of Lake Rotoaira, looking out towards Mt Tongariro at Tongariro National Park.
The photo was taken about 1am on July 28, he said.
"It was really amazing - clear skies and as the night passed it was just freezing.
"My tripod was covered with frost."
