Around 80 high school students have turned up to a rally at Auckland's Aotea Square to give their support for calls to abolish youth rates. The rally is organised by a group calling itself Radical Youth.
The students know they will face disciplinary action for skipping class to attend, but say it is worth the risk of detention to show the government they have had enough - and want the same pay as adults for doing the same job.
The protestors include students from Auckland Girls Grammar, Selwyn College, Epsom Girls and Senior College.
