Victoria University students say they will fight plans to increase their fees by eight per cent.
The university wants to raise fees for education, humanities, and social sciences papers by twice as much as the law allows, reported Newstalk ZB.
It will have to apply for special dispensation to do so.
Students Association President Bridie Hood said by raising fees, the university is locking people out of tertiary education.
She doesn't believe students should have to deal with the burden of the current economic situation, she told the radio station.
