KEY POINTS:
Students around the country are planning action tomorrow as the student debt tally hits $10 billion.
Auckland University Students Association president David Do said a "debt ghetto" was planned in the university quad from 10am, which would involve students spending the night in a "cardboard box city".
"A continued lack of access to student allowances and rising tuition fees mean debt continues to rise to unacceptable levels," Mr Do said.
The Otago Polytechnic Students Assocation has a rally scheduled on the Forth Street campus at midday tomorrow.
"Future governments need to realise that this isn't an issue that can just be ignored, we're not talking about a small issue any more: this is billions of dollars," OPSA co-president Ryan Ward said.
