Three international students have been expelled from Nelson College after a serious assault on a fellow student.
The youths were expelled late last week and two were taken to a Child Youth and Family centre outside the city, the Nelson Mail reported today.
In Nelson Youth Court last week, the pair denied kidnapping but admitted injuring the victim with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The third youth was not charged and has since left Nelson.
Nelson College principal Gary O'Shea said the victim, another international student, was still in New Zealand.
"He's not attending school, but is recovering well and is a pretty stoic young man."
The victim suffered extensive bruising to his head and body from repeated punches and kicks during the prolonged assault.
Police said the assault, which happened on school grounds, was one of the worst unprovoked attacks they had seen.
